HOW IT WORKS

Captain Tom, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been passionate about boating since childhood. Growing up near the coast, he spent his summers on the water, and his love for boating began when his parents bought him a jon-boat at age 12. After purchasing his first boat in 1997, he discovered the Stuart Sandbar, a place he grew to love and visited frequently. Tom and his wife raised their four daughters at the sandbar, even taking their youngest when she was just four months old.

After retiring from a 33-year career as a dentist, Tom decided to turn his passion for the water into a business. Inspired by Mark Twain’s quote, “If you find a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life,” he launched Smilin’ Sandbar Boat Tours with his wife, Lorraine. With over 45 years of boating experience, Tom has become an expert in navigation, boat handling, and creating safe, enjoyable experiences for his guests. Together, they offer relaxing and adventurous boat tours, sharing their love for the ocean and creating lasting memories for those who join them.
